Police say they will remain at a property in Dartmouth for the rest of the day after a major emergency response in Newcomen Road.

Forensic officers left the scene this lunchtime (Wednesday), but multiple officers remain in the area.

Devon and Cornwall Police have said they were called to a “serious disturbance” at 9.20pm last night (Tuesday, October 6).

Local residents say they’ve heard rumours of a weapon being used - “possibly an axe”.

“Police were called at around 9.20pm on Tuesday 6 October following reports of a serious disturbance at a property in Newcomen Road, Dartmouth.

“A scene guard remains in place while enquiries remain ongoing. We will provide further updates when we are in a position to do so,” a statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said.

The road remains closed while investigations continue. The Devon air ambulance was sent to the scene last night.

One local business owner told us at the scene: “It’s quite worrying really. I often walk my dogs there late at night and don’t think anything of it. What is most tragic is that a family is now ruined.

“That place is known for having a bit of a drug problem. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.”

This is a developing story - more details as we have them.
