Petroc division one

Dartmouth continued their nomadic home game fixture requirement by having to playing at Kingsbridge against a well-drilled and skilful student side.

Under the cosh for long periods, Dartmouth could do little but soak up the pressure and counter-attack where possible.

Defenders Bonny Chivers, Chloe Edwards and Jo Rendle, with assistance from Hannah Pillar, cut out wave after wave of attacks until the opening goal after 20 minutes. This did spur Dartmouth into attack and player of the match Jaz Harvey's burst into the D brought the reward of a short corner following a foul.

A quick injection from Shin Patel fell kindly for Chloe Edwards, who smashed home to equalise.

Sadly, the students' riposte was all too soon and a quick-fire cross was unfortunately guided in for an own goal by Lisa Hunt.

The second half was much of the same, with a sterling defensive effort where Dartmouth successfully defended 12 short corners, but sadly let themselves down by giving the ball away all too quickly.

Opportunist counter-attacking came in small doses and captain Lucy Pillar took full advantage as she was able to flick on a delightful pass for Siobhan Edwards, who struck at goal only to see it deflected on to the post.

Fortunately, Siobhan followed up quickly to put the ball over the line to make it two apiece. The last 15 minutes was all one-way traffic as the students sought a winner, and it was only a matter of time before a goal came, but it took another cruel deflection of defender Jo Rendle for it to happen.

A great team effort all round, but keeping possession is something Dartmouth must concentrate on if they are to win.
