His Honour Judge Linford has sent a jury of 11 members out to consider its verdict in the trial of Rowan Sutton.
Sutton, 31, of West Charleton Court, is accused of murdering his ex partner, Aimee Pike, 22, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
The court has heard that, following Ms Pike’s death, Sutton staged a false suicide scene on Embankment Road in Kingsbridge.
He has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice in relation to the staging of the scene but he denies murder.
Sutton is also accused of sexually assaulting Ms Pike on April 1, 2025.
The jury has heard evidence at Plymouth Crown Court since July 22.
Judge Linford has now invited the jury to retire and consider its verdicts.
The jury must reach a unanimous verdict. However, the judge may, in appropriate circumstances, allow a majority verdict to be returned.
