Dartmouth Regatta champions past and present are in action at this weekend's three-day LTA Winter Indoor County Cup writes Tony Atkins.

The three-doubles format got under way today with reigning regatta champion Alfie Flatters in the nine-strong Devon men's squad at Gosling.

Under the captaincy of Justin Kraushar, Devon will take on Bedford­shire, Hereford and Worcester and Oxford­shire in Group 5B.

Included in the squad is Ivybridge coach Rhys Dunford and exciting prospect Erik Wilson from New­ton Ferrers.

The ladies are in action closer to home at the Tarka Centre, Barn­staple.

Kendal Brown and un-related county captain Kate Brown have both won open titles at Corona­tion Park and the host county have an impressive line-up to choose from for today's opening match against Som­erset. Devon also play North Wales and Dur­ham and Cleveland as they attempt to win promotion from Group 4B.

At the Devon LTA Winter Indoor boys' 16 and under singles at Exeter Tennis Centre, Hugh Rdyer (Dart­mouth) won the third place play-off by beating Freddie James 4-1, 4-1. In the quarter-fin­als of the main draw, Ryder beat Louis Skup­ien 4-1, 4-2 before going down fighting to eventual champion Bradley Phillips (N Devon) 0-4, 4-2, 10-7.
