THE second round of the Dartmouth Seniors Cup took place on Monday, June 1, played off of the championship blues, reports Gordon Holmes.

Dean Raspin currently leads this event with his first round nett 70. Dean was in the field hoping to put clear water between himself and the rest. He secured second spot in the standings after another decent round.

There were 32 players in the mix but the atrocious weather accounted for nine no returns and three disqualifications. In some of the worst summer conditions I have seen and played in, no player understandably played to their handicap.

Best came from the old fox Michael Whitelaw who set the pace with a respectable nett 74 to win both overall and Division One. He just edged Paul Harding who wins Division Two and now leads the two round cup standings. We hope for more clement weather next week.

Competition result: 1st- Michael Whitelaw 74 nett, 2nd- Paul Harding 74, 3rd- Bernard Young 76, 4th- Dean Raspin 76, 5th- Bernard Taylor 77, 6th- Tony King 78. Birdie twos were scored by Paul Harding & Michael Whitelaw both at the fifth. Nigel Osborne counted them all back with due diligence- usual thanks to him.

After two rounds, Paul leads on 145, from Dean (146) and Bernard (155). Elsewhere, Dartmouth cruised to overall victory in the second leg of their Emerton Court knockout clash, winning 3.5-1.5 on the day.

The first round of the South Devon Seniors League was held at Tiverton on Thursday 28. Dartmouth seniors finished a creditable fourth and were awarded four points on the descending points scale. Next up, Torquay on June 10.

In the Blight Trophy, Mark Mitchell beat Ian Metchette and Michael Whitelaw beat Trevor Pretty in round one.

Also in round one, Malcolm Toone & Mark Whitworth beat Mark Gannon & Ralph Clark and Andrew Dix & David Sparks beat John Oldrieve & Rob Barrett in the Perring Cup.
