BORINGDON Golf Club was buzzing with activity as women from golf clubs across South and West Devon gathered for the Western Morning News Rosebowl competition.

Played as a Foursomes Stableford, clubs could enter as many pairings as they wished, but only three nominated pairs were in the running for the Rosebowl.

The best two scores from those three counted towards the team trophy. As always, there was an added twist – players never know whether their score will count towards the team total until all the cards are in!

Thankfully, there were also individual prizes down to eighth place, giving every pairing something to aim for.

Host club Boringdon certainly pulled out all the stops. Lady Captain Pat Forsbury was on hand to welcome competitors before heading out to play herself, while Ernie in the pro shop and starter Nigel kept everything running like clockwork. That left Competition Manager Wendy free to focus on getting everyone out on time, processing the scores and organising the prize presentation.

The Warren's Eve Andrews and Mary Smith (playing handicap 37) were among the early clubhouse leaders after posting an excellent 42 points. They didn't stay at the top for long though, as Dartmouth's Chris Mushens and Jodie Kenyon (PH 33) edged ahead with a superb 43 points.

For much of the day, scores remained in the 30s until Yelverton's Wendy George and Linda Bradley (PH 22) produced a strong 40-point round from the middle of the field. Their score proved invaluable, securing one of the counting scores for Yelverton's team challenge.

When the final calculations were complete, the individual prize positions remained unchanged, with Dartmouth's Chris Mushens and Jodie Kenyon taking first place on 43 points, The Warren's Eve Andrews and Mary Smith finishing runners-up on 42 points, and Yelverton's Wendy George and Linda Bradley claiming third on 40 points.

Dartmouth also took home the Rosebowl on 80 points, Chris Mayer and Anne Woodward contributing with a strong 37 points.
