Stoke Fleming and Strete had their final pre-season game this week, resulting in a 2-2 draw against Newton Rovers.

Fleming spent the majority of the first half on the back foot, but strong defending and numerous saves from Gordon Green kept the score at 0-0.

Then, when Rovers failed to clear a corner, the ball fell to James Shepherd, who claimed the first goal of the game.

Rovers continued to force openings and got their reward in equalising with only five minutes left of the first half.

After the break, Fleming were creating many chances and as Aaron East broke clear of the Rovers' defence, he was unfairly brought down in the area.

Captain Luke Webber stepped up for the penalty and successfully put Fleming 2- 1 up. Fleming were playing well and took most of the possession, but they couldn't find a way past the Rovers' 'keeper.

With not long left of the game, a win for Fleming seemed certain, until a hopeful long ball and a slippery surface caused Green to make his only mistake of the game.

For this he was cruelly punished and the game ended with the fair result of 2-2. The season kicks off for Fleming on September 7 at 2.30pm at the village green.
