ISAAC Withington bowled Stoke Gabriel to a bonus point in a soggy B Division affair against Braunton that lasted just nine overs.
Withington took two wickets in eight balls – opener Sam Reddick and next man in Andy Norman – before the weather closed in when Braunton were 39 for two.
Elsewhere in the B Division, Ashburton captain Lloyd White hopes lessons have been learned from the rain-affected game against Bovey Tracey 2nd XI.
The derby date at Varwell Field was Ashburton’s first game back in the Tolchards DCL B Division since 1998 – and it wasn’t going well for them.
As Ashburton were 75 for seven after 22 overs, White won’t have been too unhappy when umpires Tim Chapman and Robert Clark called a halt to proceedings.
“It’s a learning curve for us, and I'm confident we’ll see a stronger performance next week”, he said.
Kingsbridge were forced off by bad weather against Paignton 2nd XI, who had reduced them to 21 for two at the time in the C West meeting.
Freddie Ford departed at the start of the third over – and James Westlake followed with one ball left in the fourth.
The covers went on before the fifth over commenced. Kingsbridge are at home to Hatherleigh 2nd XI this Saturday.
Cornwood 2nd XI were unable to get on the field against South Devon due to lunchtime rain. Paignton 2nd XI are the visitors to Oak Park in round two.
The shortest game of the day in the entire Tolchards Devon League was the D West meeting between Ivybridge 2nd XI and Chagford at Filham Park.
Only seven balls were bowled before the players were taken off. Sam Northmore was the man just dismissed by Ollie Thomas when play was halted.
There was no play at Torre Valley North on the English Riviera, where Paignton 3rd XI were due to entertain their Cornwood counterparts in the E Division West.
