Dee Nutt, chair of Dartmouth Caring, writes:

It is with concern that I read in last week's Chronicle the story about the town council preparing a lease for Dartmouth Caring to take over the community rooms.

At no point has any agreement taken place and I have had to contact all my trustees following this article.

Any such expression of interest would have had to be discussed with the charity's trustees before any acknowledgement to the council was made for discussion in an open meeting.

I am accountable to 11 trustees and therefore cannot make such a decision without consultation.

We have had no wish to take on the community cafe, the extra Thursday that we were requested to have, on top of our required move out of the Guildhall of the Wednesday Lunch Club, is enough for us to manage on top of all our other community work.

We take our responsibilities and workload seriously.

We are a very busy local charity and will always respond if possible to the community needs but feel that the present arrangements for the community cafe are adequate.
