Aveton Gifford Parish Council is asking for help to get back a special picture of an Egret.
At lunchtime on Thursday (October 27) the picture of the bird by wildlife artist John Ashton disappeared from the bus shelter wall in the village. The work is a laminated print which is now worth around £500. It’s called ‘Splodge Wiggling’ and was painted at Aveton Estuary.
The Council is appealing for anyone who saw it being carried away from the top of Fore Street to come forward. It was on the wall at midday and gone by 3pm so the theft happened in broad daylight. It is 6ft by 4ft and wouldn’t fit in someone’s pocket. This picture is a one off and the property of the village, and has become a popular landmark. If you have any information you can contact John or Dinah Ashton on 01548 550740, e-mail [email protected] at the parish council or contact the police.
