THE grave of an ‘unknown’ soldier is to be honoured 225 years after he died, thanks to the dedicated efforts of an officer from the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.
Royal Navy officers from the BRNC will be among those who will attend a Service of Remembrance to mark the restoration of a grave of the Grenadier serviceman who died from drowning in 1790.
Today’s military tribute in Maker Heights, south east Cornwall, is the latest piece in a remarkable research project that has been carried out by Royal Navy Warrant Officer Darren ‘Fruity’ Paskins, who lives in Torpoint and who is currently serving as the ceremonial training officer at BRNC.
He said: ‘I first found the grave on a map in August and because I have an interest in military history I set out to find it.
‘I know Maker quite well because I’ve been camping here regularly with Ralf, my dog, since July 2013.’
