Teaching assistant Caroline Mills has retired after 27 years working at the village school where her family were taught.

Caroline began working at Diptford Primary School in 1991 – the same school her husband Stanley and her sister-in-law Jenny were taught at in the 1950s.

Caroline and Stanley’s children Victoria and Georgina also went on to become pupils there.

A school spokesman said Caroline’s connections with the school were a “real family affair” and added: “Over the years of working at Diptford, Caroline has had the privilege of teaching many children and she will be sorely missed. Diptford wish Caroline all the best in her retirement.”

A former pupil of Diptford School Vanessa Millman said: “Caroline has always been a very friendly, helpful and professional member of staff at Diptford having been there since I attended the school in 1992. Her own children attended the school with me and remain life long friends.

“Caroline has recently helped my son settle into the preschool at Diptford, so much so, he keeps asking when she will be back. She will certainly be missed by everyone at the school.”
