A local mum and her two children from a South Devon village have won a £100 prize in a scheme designed to encourage people to shop locally in Kingsbridge.

Josie Tuckett and her children, including daughter Ren, were drawn as the winners of the Love Your High Street loyalty card competition, which ran in February alongside a family Spot the Hearts trail in shop windows around the town.

The campaign was devised by the South Hams Chamber to encourage residents and visitors to explore Kingsbridge’s high street, home to a wide range of independent shops, cafés and specialist retailers, and support local businesses during the quieter months.

Shoppers taking part in the loyalty card scheme were asked to spend £5 in six different Kingsbridge shops before submitting their completed card for the prize draw.

The family, from Aveton Gifford, took part after 8-year-old Ren and her brother encouraged their mum to join in while exploring the Valentine’s-themed trail during half-term.

They received £100 in vouchers to spend in participating Kingsbridge shops, along with one of the campaign’s limited-edition Kingsbridge shopping bags.

Samantha Dennis, chair of the South Hams Chamber, said: “We wanted to encourage people to come into town, explore Kingsbridge, and support our local businesses.

“We’d like to thank the traders who supported the scheme and everyone who took part.”

Following the success of the February campaign, the Kingsbridge loyalty card scheme has returned for a second time and is running until the end of April.

Everyone who completes a loyalty card will receive a limited-edition Kingsbridge shopping bag, and one lucky winner will win £100 in vouchers to spend in participating local shops.
