Artist Nick Langdon produces coloured pencil drawings to help raise money for the RNLI.
His latest completed drawing, “The Baltic Exchange IV Around Hope Cove”, depicts the Baltic Exchange IV, the all-new Shannon Class Lifeboat for Salcombe, due on station in mid-2027, and continues the Baltic Exchange's long-standing tradition of generous support.
This drawing offers RNLI supporters a tantalising glimpse of what the Baltic Exchange IV will look like in her home territory in that area once in service.
It was done in close collaboration with Salcombe RNLI, who provided him with photos of its building at Poole whilst he was creating the drawing that shows this state-of-the-art Lifeboat, as well as supplying him with the intended operational number of the lifeboat, which is 13-70, a crucial detail to include on the completed drawing of the Lifeboat that now proudly sports that number.
Nick said: “I have strived to convey the impression of movement upon a windy day, as the Lifeboat is turning away from the headland, which in early Autumn is more parched looking and less verdant, due to an extremely hot summer, but there is a unison of movement between the direction of the lifeboat, water and clouds.
“This is a pioneering artwork, given it depicts a lifeboat that is currently not in service, as this offers a unique way to raise the profile and interest that surrounds the anticipation of an all-new All-Weather Lifeboat for Salcombe RNLI.”
All the work Nick does for the RNLI is voluntary.
He earns no income from it and said he donates usage rights of his work to the RNLI to raise money for its ongoing mission of saving lives at sea.
