Machinery to build the Mayflower Model has been delivered ahead of the 2020 commemorations.

The Mayflower Model project for the forthcoming Dartmouth Mayflower 400 commemorations in 2020 is gradually taking shape as Axminster Tools delivered the machinery last week. The company are sponsoring the machinery, which will be used to build the model.

The model is to be built at Sandquay, thanks to the kindness of the Britania Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. Numerous local businesses and individuals have helped to get the project to where it is now-with all the materials and machinery on site.

The Noss Academy, a boat building school, is currently lofting the plans for the model and will begin to make the frames shortly.

Captain Ian Kirkwood, the project manager, was selected for the position due to his previous career building replicas of ships.

When the model is built it will be sent to the Master Model Maker, Tony Fancy of Tradewind Models who will fit the interior sails, miniature barrels and hammocks.

The model will then return to Dartmouth to be put on display in either the Dartmouth Museum or the visitor centre.
