Friday was Christmas shopping evening in Modbury.

It was on a smaller scale keeping Covid protections in mind but people wrapped up warm against the cold and showers to parade around the independent shops looking for those special gifts.

The Plymouth Pipe band lead the parade of local children, local personalities and of course Father Christmas down Church Street.

Following the countdown the big switch was thrown on the Christmas lights at 6pm getting everyone in the festive spirit.

Many people stayed on for a something to eat in Modbury’s pubs and restaurant and there was even music and singing in some!

Chairman of the Modbury Traders Neill Kovacic-Clarke said: “It felt like things had got back to normal after things were cancelled last year as a result of the pandemic. Of course we wanted to keep the numbers down but we still got a good cheery crowd and it was very successful. “
