Sainsbury’s has helped raise funds for a coastwatch station.
The coastwatch station at Froward Point near Kingswear held a fundraising event in December at the Sainsbury’s store in Paignton.
Thanks to the management and staff, plus the seasonal generosity of customers, £540 was raised by the 17 coast watch volunteers and supporters.
Without a mains water system, mains electricity or a telephone line, the isolated station is expensive to run and maintain.
The amount raised could cover a year’s telephone and website costs or a fuel supply for the diesel generator.
However, after a successful 2018 the money raised last month will go towards surveying and upgrading the safety of the electricity which was installed at the station in 2005.
