A former yacht club steward has been accused of rape and sexually assaulting young girls.

Phillip Walton, 55, used to run a restaurant in Dartmouth and was a steward at Dartmouth Yacht Club.

Walton, now of Mill Street, Kingsbridge, appeared at Plymouth Crown Court where he faced 15 separate charges including rape, the indecent assault of a child under 14 years old and sexual assault of a child under 13.

When he attended court on Monday, he denied five new charges, relating to sexual assaults alleged to have taken place between 2002 and 2009.

The other 10 charges, including the rape allegation, he had denied at an earlier hearing.

He was bailed for a trial due to start on January 28 next year.
