Torcross Line has been "washed away" due to the storm and snow over the last few days.

The A379 between Torcross, Slapton and Strete Gate has been battered relentlessly by high winds and ferocious seas.

Kingsbridge Police posted at around 7am this morning for people to "stay away" from Beesands and Torcross and that the coastguard, police and fire crews were en route to help evacuate and keep people safe.

In a Facebook Live video they posted at around 8am, you can see shingle, rocks, debris and water all over the car park at Beesands and they went live again at around 9am at Torcross, where the road was barely visible over the high waves and sand.

The Kingsbridge Police Facebook page posted: "Conditions at the coast are horrendous. The winds are Storm Force 11 with an average wind speed of 66mph and gusts of over 80mph. The waves are massive and dangerous throwing shingle and debris onto the road.

"The A379 between Torcross and Strete Gate has been washed away and is impassable.

"Some A-roads are passable, but some are still not. If you don’t need to drive then don’t.

"Although it’s a pretty spectacular sight at the coast, it is extremely dangerous. Please stay away. No photo is worth a serious injury or death. All of the emergency services are stretched and don’t need the added pressure during this very busy time. Thanks."
