Devon and Cornwall Police have issued a warning about counterfeit cash being used in shops in South West Devon.

The police have received reports of counterfeit £50 notes being handed over in shops, and are encouraging staff to be aware.

If you have information, phone 101 quoting CR/005817/19.

The police advice is: “Please do not rely on checking just one security feature, but check a few such as: the feel of the paper and the raised print on "Bank of England"; the watermark; the holograms; the metallic thread; and the motion thread on the £50 note.

More information can be found on the Bank of England website, including close up photos of genuine bank notes, training for staff and an app: www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/counterfeit-banknotes/how-to-check-your-banknotes
