The Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has said her ‘thoughts are with the people of Plymouth’ after a tragic shooting in the city.

Police were called to the incident in Biddick Drive, Keyham, at around 6.10pm last night.

A number of people have died in what has been declared a critical incident. Several other casualties are receiving treatment.

The area has been cordoned off and police believe the situation is contained.

Members of the public are being asked to stay away and to avoid speculating or sharing pictures of the scene.

Commissioner Alison Hernandez, who will be in Plymouth today to offer victim care advice to people in the city, said: “My thoughts are with the relatives of the deceased, those injured and the people of Plymouth after this horrendous and tragic incident.

“I would like to pay tribute to the hard work of our blue light services this evening who have done all they can to deal with those directly affected and get the injured the best possible medical care.

“Anyone affected by what has occurred this evening can make contact with the Victim Support services commissioned by my office. Those services are available 24 hours a day on freephone 0808 1689 111 or via live WebChat on victimcaredevonandcornwall.org.uk.”
