Fire fighters from across South Devon battled a blaze in a South Hams school tonight.

Totnes fire crew were called to King Edward VI Community College just after 7pm after a portable building caught fire on the site.

An eyewitness said the fire broke out in what appeared to be an old wooden classroom on the school’s playing field.

He said a small explosion occurred and some eight fire crews attended the fought the flames.

The witness said: “The fire was on what looks like te old wooden classrooms, around the soccer play field.

“The area is cordoned by police.”

No injuries have been reported.

Police attended but the cause of the blaze has not been confirmed.
