Devon Trophy
Plym Valley 0,
Dartmouth 4
Dartmouth set up a tasty South Hams derby with Kingsbridge and Salcombe Cougars in the Devon Trophy Cup final in April after a solid performance at Plymouth.
Early exchanges were fairly even and Plym Valley certainly had some fast-breaking forwards, but the strong midfield of Lisa Hunt, Hannah Pillar and Jamie Rendle choked all attacks in their infancy to counter well with great ball to Jaz Harvey, Lucy Pillar and Sam Webb in attack.
The Plym Valley defence were stretched by Dartmouth's pace as Jaz Harvey in particular had some fine runs into the D, keeping the home goalie busy. Dartmouth again came close with two short corners as it looked like the goalie was having a good day.
Lucy Pillar finally broke the duck as she latched onto a fine through-ball from her sister Hannah, which she skilfully deflected past the onrushing 'keeper.
The Dartmouth defence stood up well to Plym Valley's response with sterling work from Jo Rendle, Chloe Edwards, Bonnie Chivers and goalie Ellie Malley, who cleared out well under pressure.
The second half started brightly for Dartmouth and early pressure forced a short corner before some slick passing in the D set up Hannah Pillar, who smashed home with vigour.
Dartmouth immediately gained possession from the restart and a goal-mouth scramble for the ball allowed Alix Vincent to slip the ball past the 'keeper.
Dartmouth now had full control of the game and were relentless in attack as Siobhan Edwards and Hannah Pillar made determined runs into the home 23, causing defensive errors.
The game was wrapped up with another short corner move as player-of-the-match Hannah Pillar gratefully received a short pass from sister Lucy to strike home via a slight deflection.
Coach Kevin Edwards was very pleased with a great team performance, saying: 'We did the basics well and our fitness level shone through to the end.
'The final will be a first for us with Dartmouth the underdogs for sure, but I know our players will give 100 per cent and that's all you can ask; they are looking forward to the challenge'.
Dartmouth are back to league action with a game against Totnes-based rivals Dart.
