Woofstock UK has been named Britain’s best dog friendly day out in 2017.

The all-things-canine festival, held on Dartmouth’s Coronation Park in August, beat a number of other events and venues, including the Eden Project, Dog Fest, Portland Castle and Balmoral Castle, to scoop the coveted prize at the annual Dog Friendly Awards.

The awards were presented by the Kennel Club and Le Shuttle during a ceremony at the London Excel on Saturday (October 21).

Woofstock UK was nominated by the public after its highly successful festival which saw 1,800-plus humans and dogs descend for the festivities from not only the UK but Europe and beyond too.

Organisers Heather Nesbitt and Carol Bevan, from Blackawton, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the UK’s best dog friendly day out award. We had no idea we had been nominated until late on in the proceedings.

“When we got the call to say we had won, we were taken aback.

“We would like to thank the public for voting and for coming to the festival.

“We would especially like to thank Mandie and Bella Horton our marketing and design team, all our volunteers, display teams, judges, John Walker and Riki Banister for their amazing filming and photography, compere Caroline Spencer, and traders who work tirelessly to make the day amazing for the public.

"Without our volunteers Woofstock UK would not have become the amazing day out it has and will continue to be for many years to come. This award is for all of us.”

Woofstock UK will return to Coronation Park on Saturday, August 4, next year. Tickets will be on sale soon at www.woofstockuk.co.uk . For the latest festival news, visit www.facebook.com/woofstockUnitedKingdom/.
