NICOLETTE COWARD, of Victoria Road, Dartmouth, writes:

As one of those most directly affected by double-decker buses in Victoria Road – mounting the pavement within inches of our house, throbbing and vibrating the building and emitting fumes – I am delighted by the improvement in quality of life.

However, I am sorry that it is at the expense of fellow residents and am amazed that the bus company has not replaced the double-deckers with single-deckers and retained the route.

The late-lamented 111 was a single-decker and seemed to have adequate capacity.

The 93, it is claimed, needs to be a double-decker to cope with school pupils in Kingsbridge.

Surely the solution would be to run extra single-deckers at school times.
