Dr Richard Rawlins, of Beacon Road, Kingswear, Dartmouth, writes:

The initiative of Karen Grant in establishing Dogwatch Dartmouth is greatly to be applauded, Chronicle, January 29. This chimes with my call last year for Kingswear Residents Against Poo to be instigated.

Most dog owners are considerate, especially residents, but a change in mindset is needed for those who are not.

Many councils are now issuing on-the-spot fines for transgressions, but I would go further and ask local dog wardens and PCSOs to inquire of all dog walkers whether or not they have a means of disposal with them. Otherwise – may their consciences be pricked.

Dog mess is not a problem unique to the Dart’s west side, and I hope in future Dogwatch Dartmouth may recognise Kingswear and perhaps become ‘D-Krap’.

Additionally, the attention of South Hams Council dog wardens and PCSOs would be appreciated over here in Kingswear.
