THREE brothers have come together to repaint a bench in honour of their mother perched high over the River Dart and Kingswear.
Nicko, Harry and Tom Franks gathered at the bench on the footpath from Jawbones Hill, Dartmouth, to repaint the wooden seat installed in memory of their mother and popular Dartmouthian Jane Franks in 1992.
The bench holds Jane’s name and dates 1916-1992, as well as plaques in memory of her sister Prim Somme – 1919-2010, and husband Robert Franks – 1912-2008.
The bench, which the brothers say is very popular, has a stunning view over Dartmouth, from the mouth of the Dart to the Britannia Royal Naval College, taking in the train line and the octagonal Daymark. It is apparently the best place to see the Red Arrows if they are performing on the river.
Placed in that location due to Jane’s love of the area, the walk was her favourite with her dog. It is now spruced up and is worth a visit if you have a spare afternoon to waste gazing at the green-blue water.
