At the regular meeting of The Dart Lodge who meet in the Masonic Hall Dartmouth, the members were given an illustrated presentation of the activities of Shelter Box. The Cornish-based charity which brings relief to victims of natural disasters around the world. A spokesman said: “There were some 39 Brethren present and all of them enjoyed the very enlightening talk, which was apparent by the large number of questions which followed the presentation.”
Shelter Box are currently working to in various disaster struck areas around the world, the most recent to receive their help has been the Caribbean where Hurricanes Maria & Irma caused so much devastation,
Nepal and Malawi are just two of the other places needing their help, they send such items as tents, tools, lighting, water purification systems, blankets and cooking facilities after deciding what it required for each incident.
Shelter Box is made up of people who believe shelter is a human right, something which is a basic belief of all Freemasons who send £100k to help the Caribbean disaster and £50k to Nepal via the Red Cross.
The spokesman continued: “Following the talk, the Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Steven Gill, presented a cheque on behalf of the Lodge for the sum of £1,000, it was received with grateful thanks on behalf of Shelter Box by Mr John Page, ex-head of BRNC, who gave the talk”.
