Schoolgirl Scarlett Holmes' seaside garden is a right blooming winner.

The Dartmouth Academy Year 3 student was awarded one of the major regional bloom awards for the special college garden she designed.

Scarlett and teacher Kate Taylor stepped up to receive the award from town mayor Paul Allen at Dartmouth in Bloom's annual presentation evening at the Guildhall.

Dartmouth in Bloom had asked the academy to create a special garden for this year's Britain in Bloom bid which earned the town a fistful of awards – including a gold.

Mrs Taylor organised a school competition and Scarlett put in an innovative idea for the seaside garden.
