John Tremlett, of Southford Road, Dartmouth, writes:
If the Royal Dartmouth bid is successful, are the trustees of the Dartmouth Business Improvement District award of £750,000 – after paying a manager £25,000 a year – going to financially help all the local clubs, organisations and associations who will have to spend hundreds of pounds to have their headed notepaper, logo, insignia, badges etc changed to incorporate the word 'Royal'?
Dartmouth Town Council, South Hams Council and Devon County Council will have to spend thousands changing nameplates, road signs etc again to incorporate the word 'Royal', which will in turn lead to an increase in our council tax and business rates.
I don't believe many people think adding 'Royal' to our town's historic and worldwide known name of Dartmouth is necessary or even desireable.
Does the BID team really think it is going to increase the footfall, if we do not have a 'Royal' actually living in the town?
