A team of rowers from the River Dart Rowing Club (RDRC) has celebrated a double success after winning the race section of a major charity event while raising thousands of pounds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
The “Oars for Cures” crew took part in the Great GOSH Row, bringing together local rowers Rob, Leanne, Rhiannon, Sian, Keith, Sue, Maz, Colin and Nickie to support the charity’s work helping children with serious illnesses.
The River Dart team delivered the fastest performance of the event, crossing the finish line ahead of the other competing boats and securing victory on the water.
Their achievements continued off the water, with the crew raising £7,243 for the charity, making them the second-highest fundraising team across the entire event.
The top fundraising spot was claimed by the official Great Ormond Street Hospital staff crew, who collected £7,539. Their involvement was inspired by Margaret, who is also a member of the River Dart Rowing Club, creating a great group effort between the two teams.
Together, the linked crews raised a combined total of £14,782 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
The money will go towards the development of a new children’s Cancer Centre, due to open in 2029. The specialist facility will provide advanced treatment and care for children with some of the most complex medical needs.
The River Dart rowers said they were proud to represent the club and thanked everyone who supported their fundraising efforts.
“We are incredibly proud to have represented River Dart Rowing Club,” the crew said in a joint statement.
“A special thank you to everyone who donated, shared our page, and cheered us on. Together, we have made a real difference.”
