The sun shone brightly on the 35th Dittisham Regatta last weekend.
Les the Fez, Dartmouth’s very own town crier opened the regatta on Saturday, August 18.
Families came to enjoy the day and the rowing races were supported by old regatta participants as well as new.
The Under 11’s rowing attracted lots of children who enjoyed using the three matched toad class rowing boats and the water and beach based obstacle event, The Plum Challenge.
Some local and some visiting old Gaffers sailed past, commentated by Nicko Franks, which was thoroughly enjoyed.
The Ditsum Players provided BBQ food throughout the day and the annual crabbing competition brought out the competitive spirit of the children and some of the parents.
All day, the quay was buzzing with visitors trying a variety of games, enjoying refreshments, buying t-shirts and entering the raffle to win a stunning Paul Riley painting.
The WI provided cakes and there was a teddy bear raffle on behalf of St George’s Church.
Unfortunately, the Nauti Buoys Crew sea shanty singers were unable to join the regatta this year due to a sad death.
The regatta committee has said it is proud that profits from the day will be donated to local organisations and charities.
To finish, Jonathan Dimbleby gave a few words of thanks and presented the prizes for the rowing races.
The winners from across the races included the Hyman family, Jack Deeker, Charlie Perry, Rachel Hansford, Alison Bland, Will Atkins, Lance Worthington, Merlin and Flo Hyman, Tess Preston, Peter and Neil Coxon, Bev Worthington, Maz Jamieson, Rupert Douglas Bate and Holly Bristow.
Additionally, the Ladies Whaler and the Mens Whaler was won by the Ferry Boat Inn. The Under 11’s race was won by Stan Houdret, closely followed by Daniel O’Flaherty and Ronnie Hesletine finished in third.
