Peter Howard, of Woolston, Kingsbridge, writes:
So Sherford (the Western one) rears its head again. Let's remind ourselves that under the EU Plan of 1995, Devon was obliged to build 99,000 new homes before 2015/6 as its share of the central Government commitment of more than four million, yes, four million! This was handed on down to SHC who had then to find our allocation of13,900 new houses.
It is a pretence to state that these homes need to be 'affordable' and are required to meet local need.
That commitment is now cast in stone, so it is too late to stop it now.
Two questions can still be asked, however:
1) How has the infrastructure been addressed? That is to say, roads, schools, power supply, sewerage and so on for what, 20,000 extra people?
2) How far has Plymouth City Council progressed with the promised redevelopment of its large brownfield sites?
