Plans for another Woofstock UK dog festival on Dartmouth’s Coronation Park will be discussed at next week’s full town council meeting.

Cllr Steve Smith had requested a special meeting of the council in an email to the mayor, Cllr Richard Cooke. He had been dissatisfied over the way the issue was addressed at the September council meeting.

This request was not granted but instead the festival has been included on the agenda for October’s meeting.

Cllr Smith has asked for a vote to be taken on whether the town council supports Woofstock UK, as previously it had opposed it. In the end, South Hams District Council, which owns Coronation Park, approved the festival and it went ahead in August. Woofstock UK organisers have applied to hold another festival next year.

Also on the agenda is the proposed transfer of parks, gardens, toilets and roadside verges from the district council to the town council.

This follows comments from Cllr John Tucker, leader of district council, that what is now being called “devolved service transfer”, was really a transfer of liabilities and not assets.

Alongside this, the town council will be discussing whether it could buy the town’s car parks from the district council.

SHDC owns Mayor’s Avenue car park, the park and ride and the small castle car park.

The meeting will take place at the Guildhall, Victoria Road, on Monday, October 2, at 7pm. The full agenda can be found on the town council’s website www.dartmouthtowncouncil.org.
