In light of the recent Ofsted report and your report, Chronicle, November 27, I would like to express my positive anticipation for the future of Dartmouth Academy.

As the mother of a Year 11 student, I have been delighted with the recent changes made since Tina Graham was appointed as acting principal in September.

There has been a definitive increase of energy and happiness within the school. The teachers and students seem enthused and focused. The communication between school and parents has increased and given me the information needed to support my son in the correct way.

With these changes going forward, I feel the school will take the students from strength to strength.

As a family we moved here two years ago due to work commitments. We did our research and positioned ourselves in Kingsbridge.

Unfortunately, after appealing, we were unable to get a place at Kingsbridge Community College.

However, when Dartmouth became our only option, I felt very hopeful that our son’s education was in good hands.

The reason I had hope was due to the amazing attitude shown by the students and the community feel within the school.

Our son made fantastic friendships and was instantly very happy.

Sadly, over the past two years I have felt very frustrated with the lack of communication

from the school. The students’ motivation seemed low and there was a negative educational drive.

When I heard that Tina Graham from KCC was being appointed, I was very pleased. She is focused, committed and dedicated to turning these problems around.

I feel that the teaching team has a great leader and together they will bring the belief that these children can excel.

All pupils deserve to have the same education as those at any other outstanding school.
