“What could be more rewarding than supporting people in your own community”
Juliet Eynon, is the new face managing Quay Court Residential Home in Kingsbridge. Juliet has passion and enthusiasm for her role which has endured throughout her career spanning over 20 years.
Starting as a Care Assistant working night shifts at Quay Court when it was a Nursing Home, she credits the wonderful Nurses with whom she worked as her inspiration. “They encouraged me; they were interested in me and what I could achieve; they taught me so much – if I hadn’t disliked blood I would have become a Nurse!”
Having chosen the caring profession as her career path, Juliet worked hard to secure the necessary qualifications to progress to Senior Care Assistant and then move into management. Her years of hands-on experience were invaluable in her final role before returning to the area. As Regional Support Manager for a renowned and respected national exemplar within the industry, Anchor Trust (owners of Kiln House in the town), with a region spanning Newquay to Southampton she specialised in stepping in as a trouble shooter to resolve issues, helping homes get back on track or temporarily managing homes without a manager in post. A hugely responsible position and a world away from the start of her career…but it was those fond memories of Kingsbridge and, indeed, Quay Court which tempted her back.
“I am so lucky to be running a community home because you have a chance to work with people you know – both the brilliant staff members and many of the residents or their families. I would really encourage young people looking for something which is far beyond ‘just a job’ to consider the caring profession – they only have to look at me to see the opportunities on offer.”
Juliet is always keen to talk to anyone who may be interested in care and as a trained Assessor qualified to supervise students in training, she would welcome new recruits. “There are apprenticeships available to help students in to the profession; mentoring and support is given to encourage them to progress and there is a clearly defined career structure open to those who believe looking after others with dignity and respect is a worthwhile aim in life.”
“Equally, if there are any experienced staff looking to return to the profession, perhaps, or who have moved into the area, I would be delighted to hear from them, too. There is a great team in place at Quay Court of special people who share my ethos and belief in what we do every day and how we do it.”
Offering permanent and respite care, Quay Court is part of the Devon Care Group with homes across the area and is able to provide dementia care (sadly, now required by all too many). Ideally located near to the bustling town centre and with views across the estuary from most of its living areas and rooms, the house itself is modern and beautifully appointed to the highest standards. Two separate lounges offer a choice of style and comfort in which to relax with friends or why not enjoy the restful safe space of the delightful sensory garden with water feature, trees and flowers. The home also has a hairdressing salon and nail bar so residents can enjoy being pampered.
