Community groups have collaborated with the Naval College to revamp the gardens on the river front.
Dartmouth Caring has been working in partnership with Dartmouth Green Partnerships(DGP) and the naval cadets from Britannia Royal Naval College to improve the raised beds at the potager community gardens on the river front.
The naval cadets worked with Eddie Church and his staff from Dartmouth Town Council to remove old timbers and install new oak sleepers. This transformed the raised beds and people with mobility issues will now be able to access the area.
The work was made possible after the generosity of the Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust and Naturesave. Dartmouth Caring received two grants from these organisations to help expand the charities work in the community.
Many clients of Dartmouth Caring had no access to the garden or any outside space. The work carried out by DGP and the naval cadets will address this problem.
There are many benefits of outdoor facilities for elderly people and Dartmouth Caring will be working alongside DGP volunteers to ensure the new resource is well used.
Nick Hindmarsh, manager of Dartmouth Caring said: “We have been trying to get this project off the ground for nearly a year now and I must thank both DGP and BRNC for their help.”
