Richard Cooke, Dartmouth deputy mayor, of Market Street, Dartmouth, writes: In last week's letters, Brian Parker mischievously misrepresents my opinions on the West Dartmouth housing scheme. At the meeting of the town council's planning committee with members of South Hams' planning department, I asked that if, in the light of our experiences with Millward Homes, there was a likelihood that another private builder would come up with a better offer than 14 per cent affordable units. The reply was that it was most unlikely. I voted with the rest of the planning committee to reject the application. We have yet to see if South Hams' planning committee agree with us. In the meantime, Dartmouth Town Council is inviting other organisations to advise us as to whether alternative funding sources could support a proposal better meeting the needs of Dartmouth.
