Helen Petit, of Ebrington Street, Kingsbridge, writes:
I must be among many locals and potential visitors who are extremely disappointed and saddened by the sudden cancellation of the Bruce Munro Field of Light project planned for the Salcombe area from September.
Whatever the reasons and objections – and it is difficult to imagine what they might be – it is a huge cultural and artistic opportunity lost to our area.
I was really looking forward to having the chance to see this internationally known artist’s work in our part of the world over the autumn and winter, with the glass spheres creating a magical glow on the landscape opposite Salcombe.
I had friends from Sussex and Reading coming to stay especially to see it, and no doubt many other visitors would have enjoyed an evening or two sitting in Salcombe gazing over to this unusual installation from a bar, pub or restaurant.
Hopefully there will be another opportunity for Bruce Munro and for bringing this kind of innovative art to the South Hams.
Are there any enlightened owners of fields out there willing to participate in the future?
