The flagship of the Sea Cadets, arrived in the Dart on Thursday, September 21.

Royalist is the Sea Cadets flagship, a training brig that takes up to twenty-four cadets to sea for six-day voyages. Annette Edmonds, Sea Cadets Offshore Officer said: “She was in Dartmouth at the end of a week’s voyage and was dropping off young people. The ship had picked them up last week at the start of her voyage from Weymouth on Saturday, September 16. They came from all over the UK.

“Royalist came into Dartmouth and went out to sea, training the next day. Then, when she returned, the group that joined at Weymouth, disembarked and went home.

“On Saturday, September 23, she will pick up another 23 young people and sail to Falmouth to arrive next Thursday, September 28.

“How and where she goes, in between, will be up to her captain, but there will be a full training programme, taking into account the weather and sea conditions. There are two cadets from the west country amongst the crew picked up in Dartmouth.”

TS Royalist was designed by Acubens, built in 2015 at the Spanish shipyard of Astilleros Gondan. The Princess Royal officially named the Marine Society and Sea Cadets’ flagship, TS Royalist. The Sea Cadets have two other training ships: TS John Jerwood and TS Jack Peachey as well as two yachts.
