Year 9 students were treated to a National Theatre production of Macbeth.
The Flavel gave students from Dartmouth Academy the chance to come to a specially arranged student viewing of the acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Macbeth starring Christopher Ecclestone and Niamh Cusack.
This enabled the youngsters to have, what for many of them was their first taste of Shakespeare, finding it interesting and challenging.
The students said they thought the screening would help them when they study the play but admitted they found it rather “creepy” and “weird” especially as the witches were played by young girls wearing onesies and slippers.
The children also said they were surprised that it was such a modern production as they had been expecting it to be more traditional.
All the students who came down to the Flavel on Tuesday, May 15, agreed the production kept them on their toes and greatly praised Christopher for his performance.
A representative from the Flavel said: “We were delighted to welcome all these students and hope that they enjoyed our special viewing.
“We are very keen to foster our already excellent relationship with Dartmouth Academy and hope to put on many more similar events in the future and to welcome back the students to the Flavel very soon.”
