A police officer was attacked as a drunken Kingsbridge man tried to bite ambulance staff in a Dartmouth town centre incident.

The same man had been arrested in the South Hams on five separate occasions in a single week, town councillors were told.

Dartmouth Police chief Insp Andy Tomlinson, giving his monthly report, told how the man 'from the Kingsbridge area' had been causing trouble in Dartmouth.

He said: 'Following a request for assistance by ambulance crew, police officers found a drunken man who had already been causing problems in other towns across the South Hams.

'He kicked one officer and attempted to bite the officers and ambulance crew.

The man was arrested for assault and being drunk and disorderly. He was charged and has now been remanded in custody.'
