A 20-YEAR-old South Hams man died following a three-car crash near Dartmouth last Saturday.

Daniel 'DJ' Foale was driving from Dartmouth when he was involved in the accident on the A3122, close to Woodlands. He was airlifted to Derriford Hospital after the crash at around 11.30am, but died of his injuries.

Among those paying tribute to Mr Foale this week was the Dartmouth father of his girlfriend, Skye Marie.

Mark Daniels, posting a message on the Kingsbridge police Facebook site, wrote: 'Thank you DJ for making my daughter very happy as she did you. I know you both loved each other in the short time you were together.

'I will miss your smiley face in the mornings when you stayed over, you are a fantastic young man, we will all miss you so much.

'Heaven have got themselves another angel, and I know you will look after your little princess Skye Marie. Sleep well my friend, God bless.'

Mr Foale's family said in a statement: 'We are utterly devastated by the loss of Daniel, DJ, our beautiful son; brother; grandson and friend.

'Trying to find words with which to describe him is such a difficult task, as the kind of person Daniel was seems to defy definition.

'Daniel was involved in a car accident at the weekend and tragically died at Derriford Hospital from his injuries.

'Daniel, from Kingsbridge, was a keen sportsman with his main passion being rugby and football. He enjoyed playing for many local football teams, Malborough being his most recent team. Daniel attended Kingsbridge Community College, and went on to South Devon College where he studied various subjects.

'He was the life and soul of every party and lit up every room he entered. He was hugely admired by so many people for so many different reasons.'

Andy Weeks, chairman of East Allington Football Club, where Daniel also played, said: 'The club wishes to pass on its condolences to Dan 'DJ's' family and friends at this very sad time.

'Dan was always very committed, helpful and enthusiastic on and off the pitch in his time at East Allington. He was always willing to help out either team and also got a local business to sponsor the reserve team kit.

'DJ will be sorely missed and the club is going to pay it's respects by requesting a minutes silence at it's two matches this coming weekend.'

Mr Foale worked for Kbb in Kingsbridge. A company spokesman said: 'We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dan. He was a valued and loved member of the team at Kbb South West Ltd and The Clean Home Company.'

A 31-year-old woman and her four-month-old daughter were taken to Torbay Hospital after the crash. The woman was later released with minor injuries and the child was found to be uninjured.

A 41-year-old local woman and her 13-year-old son were treated at the scene and released.

A police spokesman said: 'Officers from the force's serious collisions unit have commenced an investigation and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a green Volkswagen Polo being driven in the area of Woodlands or who may have witnessed the collision.

'We would like to send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the male involved'.

Witnesses are asked to contact Sgt Steve Walker on 101 quoting log 334/310115.
