TWO Dartmouth charities have stepped up to help children in need of shoes in East Africa.

Dartmouth’s Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs joined forces to supply funds for the purchase of new shoes for pupils at Kiboko School in Kenya.

The idea was initiated by Inner Wheel member Jo Dudmesh, whose daughter teaches at the education project, a public school within the Soysambu Conservancy. Kiboko is a Swahili word for hippopotamus.

More than £400 was presented to the project, which will be enough to purchase 120 pairs of new shoes – enough for every child in the school.
