Dart the Dart runners ran 13 miles in fancy dress last weekend to raise funds for Dartmouth’s annual Food Festival.
Starting in Totnes they finished at Coronation Park. Organised by a team of the festival’s volunteers, led by Alison Timms and Jane Green, the run was planned originally in May 2020 in partnership with Dartmouth Mayflower 400.
A spokesperson for the event said: “A cool misty morning at The Riverside Café, in Totnes saw the 9am start of the 13-mile Dart the Dart, taking our participants through some stunning scenery all the way to Dartmouth.
“With around 170 of the original 200 registrations taking to the trail, they followed a route stopping along the way at several of our local food and drink outlets tasting menu items or products supplied by our supporters.
“With BRNC being the penultimate stop - serving a tot of rum with a ships biscuit and a slice of lime for the scurvy!”
First to cross the finish line were Gemma and James Harris, followed by Rebecca, Katie and Barry Topham as bacon, egg and ketchup!
Prizes were awarded for the best dressed and most inspiring entrants, including the humbugs who won the small team fancy dress, and the French onion-stringed group winning for the large teams.
All runners went away with a goody bag, which also included a limited edition print of a design especially commissioned for the run from Dartmouth’s Simon Drew.
Sheila Shribman, chair for Dartmouth Food festival, said “The Dartmouth Food Festival is absolutely thrilled with the success of this fundraiser as it was clear participants really enjoyed it whether running, walking, providing delicious food or drink, or volunteering.
We are receiving lots of requests to do it again already!”
