mums and the their babies have been enjoying a Bosom Buddies picnic to highlight the importance of breast-feeding.

More than a dozen mothers and their children took part in the event at the Dartmouth Area Children's Centre, which is based on the academy campus.

The mum's group meets once a week in an environment where the mothers can feel comfortable about breast-feeding with a member of the health visitor team on hand to deal with questions or concerns, said Elaine Musgrave, centre lead for Dartmouth and Kingsbridge.

Elaine said that while there is a good take up in breast-feeding when mums leave hospital the numbers tend drop after six to eight weeks.

She added: 'We want to support long-term breast-feeding.'
