Jon Pope, of the Dolphin Inn, Dartmouth, writes:
I'd like to be the first of the Dartmouth pubs to publicly congratulate Pam and the music festival commitee for a well organised three days of music last weekend.
Being a little disappointed for not being approached to sponsor or appear in the festival programme, and having to deal with a 'foreign' brewery bar just metres from my front door, as you can imagine I was feeling a little bah humbug during day one.
By midway through day two my rage had been minimised by some cracking music from my own acts and the gentle 'ding' of the bell within the cash register.
Our punters' general consensus was that this year's festival was turning out to be a good 'un. Throughout day three my thoughts were turning to my annual Dart Music Festival rant to the 'all ears' Chronicle letters page. Thankfully there wasn't a day four and as the bombsite of a bar was swept and mopped back together I realised I didn't want to rant this year.
Thankfully no hooligans turned up to take on the local constabulary and a last-minute scare from South Hams Council licensing department with their lovely new, shiny 'alcohol control' signs couldn't put a damper on the weekend.
I now genuinely think the festival committee has got a grip on things and is ready to move up a level.
This year I'm holding out my dusty olive branch to the organisers and offering our services to set up a Dartmouth musicians 'supergroup' event to feature at a 2014 pre-festival fundraiser. I'm also offering to aid the DMFers to set up and run their own festival bar next year; generating possibly thousands towards expensive acts for the following year.
Dart Music Festival, this pub is ready to commit. Let's get planning for another 'music monster' next year.
