Police were out in force today as two men were detained in Dartmouth.

The men were stopped by a police officer outside Boots at around 3pm. They were held in front of the shop window, facing the road. The officer was heard to demand repeatedly that one of the men should: ”Spit it out out”. A struggle ensued and, with the help of a passerby wearing a clerical collar, the man was handcuffed. The second man stood still during the struggle.

The officer called for urgent assistance using his radio while wrestling with the man he eventually handcuffed. Two officers arrived by police car within minutes of the call.

In total, three uniformed officers dealt with the incident and two police cars attended.

A recent police survey has revealed that the majority of those asked, wanted a greater police presence in the town.
