A man is facing a crown court trial over alleged child sex offences.
Michael Watton, 56, appeared before Plymouth magistrates on Monday charged with two offences of attempting to arrange or facilitate the commission of a child sex offence and one offence of attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming.
Watton, who lives with his mother and brother in Church Road, Dartmouth, was arrested in Paignton.
Watton's family was well-known in Dartmouth, having moved to the town more than 40 years ago. His mother and father ran the ice cream shop, The Good Intent, in Lower Street, before the death of Mr Watton senior.
Watton attended what is now Dartmouth Academy. He was a steward at Britannia Royal Naval College.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Exeter Crown Court on Thursday, November 23.
