A young deer that got its leg stuck in a barbed wire fence has been rescued by firefighters.

Crews from Buckfastleigh saved the injured fawn after it got trapped in South Brent on Friday, September 13.

Firefighters called a local vet who gave the animal stitches.

The animal was safely released into the wild once it had recovered.

Buckfastleigh Fire Station said: “On Friday morning we were called to the South Brent area for a young deer caught in barbed wire.

“On arrival, we found a young deer trapped on the fence and set about to free it while waiting for a vet to attend.

“The vet sedated the deer on the scene and expertly stitched up the injury to the deer’s leg.

“It was then transported to the vet’s practice for recuperation prior to being released back into the area.”
